Be prepared for a whirlwind trip around the globe at Crossroads Asia, a Hang Dong-based furniture and antiques showroom and warehouse that is designed to overwhelm. Josh and his wife Jennie have owned and manage the business for 25 years and go on regular buying trips to 26 countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America. Enter through a rather nondescript doorway into a vibrant labyrinth of a showroom filled with rustic antiques from India, handwoven textiles from Guatemala, repurposed tables from Java, kimonos from Japan and two massive warehouses packed with architectural salvage and countless other treasures. With 30,000 square meters to explore, it’s impossible to even begin to describe their inventory. Some of my favourite pieces include their unique “3-nations concept” furniture such as a Danish designed chair, upholstered with Uzbek Ikat textiles and finished by skilled artisans in Chiang Mai. Most recently, they have been building quite the collection of up-and-coming Southeast Asian art. A must visit in the Baan Tawai woodcarving area.
