My Secret Café’s (not-so-secret, really) In Town branch echoes the vibrant mood and cosy feel of their flagship location on the outskirts of town (minus the lamyai or longan farm and friendly horse). Nestled in a nook just behind popular Ahka Ama coffee, their discreet yet central location is steps away from Sunday walking street and the revered Phra Singh temple. On offer is a combination of Thai and Western comfort food with an array of mouth-watering, fresh-baked goodies. Their signature noodle dishes are ones you won’t find anywhere else in town: kwuay tiew bok or land noodles, a noodle salad with small rice noodles, plenty of veggies, shredded chicken, tofu, peanuts and potato chips, tossed with a fish sauce and vinegar dressing. They also serve kwuay tiew kaek or Indian noodles which is reminiscent of khao soy, with some added crispy shallots and varying spices.
The otherwise tranquil café comes alive with Tuesday Music Nights, a weekly highlight for locals. Starting at 7:30pm, expect an impressive line-up of jazz, blues, samba and more–featuring up-and-coming musical talents–all carefully curated by respected local sax player “Eek.”
