This jar was used to ferment anything from crabs, to mango, to bamboo shoots and other kinds of fruit. It could also have been used to store salt. It could also have been used to ferment alcohol. They were a staple in any Northern kitchen for their versatility and come in a variety of glazes. This is piece is probably more than 50 years old.
