A typical medicine cabinet would be made from teak, have 3 shelves with a clear glass window and hung on the wall in most homes. The intricate detailing on this piece probably means it came from Myanmar. This piece is probably more than 50 years old.
WHAT DID I DO TO IT?
I replaced the window for a mirror, changed the hooks to brass and upgraded the knob (to a nicer secondhand one). I then sanded it down and spruced it up with a coat of colored, low-voc furniture paint. The exterior is refinished in a rustic lemon and the inside is a warm surprise with turquoise. I washed and sanded it down again, then applied my mom’s all-natural wood wax to finish it off (Sabu-Sabu).
